ACTIVITIES PROVIDE SPORTING CHALLENGE
People with learning disabilities have been taking part in sporting activities thanks to a little help from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.
Sporting Challenge, a charity dedicated to providing sporting activities for people with learning disabilities, received £1225 from the Charitable Foundation.
The donation was used to fund six months of activities, including ten pin bowling, boccia/kurling, and meals for 35 people in West Lancashire.
Participation in sporting activities is known to improve peoples’ mental and physical well-being, increase confidence and encourage independence.
Edward McCarthy, Sporting Challenge Trustee and Secretary, said: “We’re so grateful to the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation for their generous donation.”
“Unfortunately some people with a learning disability aren’t able to take part in an exercise activity as they’re unable to get places on their own, or need support. With the help of generous donations like this one, we’re able to help people take part in activities and get the benefits that come with it. Once again the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation have supported our worthy cause.”
Sporting Challenge Chairman John Haggart also said “I am delighted with the support we received from this scheme.”
Sporting Challenge provides staff to collect the participants from their homes, support them whilst they take part and return them home after the activities.
Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is the focal point for all the Yorkshire Building Society group’s charitable giving including; Yorkshire, Barnsley, Chelsea and Norwich & Peterborough Building Societies.

The Foundation is supported financially by the Society, its staff and members, particularly through Yorkshire’s innovative Small Change, Big Difference scheme where over 860,000 members currently donate the pence of their interest to the Foundation.
