Sporting Challenge were formed in 2008 are celebrating it being eight years since they began. Sporting Challenge organise evening activities for adults with additional needs. The Activities take place monthly across West Lancashire during the evenings and sometimes weekends.
Edward McCarthy Sporting Challenge Activities Coordinator said: “Sporting Challenge have been providing sporting activities for around 40 people with additional needs in West Lancashire by organising evening and weekend activities which are a great way for the users to have fun, make friends and lead an active lifestyle whist providing valuable respite for their parents/carers. It can be difficult to access sport and exercise activities with barriers including parents or carers being unable to physically take them and stay with them at classes, or they can also experience physical difficulties with participating in mainstream sport and exercise classes. Sporting Challenge can really help as it provides specialist support workers who can collect participants from where they live and provide much needed support while they are having fun, before dropping them off back home again. We provide sessions if ten pin bowling, aerobics, swimming, Wii nights and much more. We work closely with local organisations Divine Days Creative Arts, Domino Partnerships and the charity Linkability to provide our ever popular sessions.”
Edward added: “We are currently recruiting more staff for these activities, please get in touch for more information.”
The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund is a Registered Charity set up with the consent of Her Majesty The Queen to benefit causes primarily within the County Palatine.
Edward McCarthy Sporting Challenge Activities Coordinator said: “We wish to thank the Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth for our funding award. We know from feedback that our sessions are popular and beneficial, with extra funding we can carry on this good work and work towards new venues and opportunities.”
