Everyone really enjoyed our new Fitness night. Here is a picture.

Please use my new email address as I will be working independently as Sporting Challenge’s Activity Organiser. Everything will continue as before, there will be no other changes to the way we organise our activities and the work I do.

Sporting Challenge Activities

Sporting Challenge Activities are diversifying their range of activities for adults with additional needs in West Lancashire. Recent activities now include snooker, a fitness night, walks, Latin American dancing, a quiz night, and a computer course. The group are planning an activity holiday for the autumn in the Lake District, trying a wide range of new outdoor activities.

The registered charity was set up in 2008 by a group of parent carers to provide sporting activities for around 40 people with learning disabilities to keep them fit and healthy.

The Activities take place across West Lancashire during the evening and sometimes at weekends.

Edward McCarthy Sporting Challenge Activities Co-ordinator said: “It can be difficult to access sport and exercise activities with barriers including parents or carers being unable to physically take them and stay with them at classes, or they can also experience physical difficulties with participating in mainstream sport and exercise classes. Sporting Challenge provide specialist support workers who collect participants from where they live and provide much needed support while they are having fun, before dropping them off back home again. We provide sessions of ten pin bowling, aerobics, swimming, Wii nights and much more. We work closely with local organisations Divine Days Creative Arts, Domino Partnerships and the charity Linkability to provide our ever popular sessions.”

The regular physical activities and social contact improves peoples’ health, mental and physical well being leading to further opportunities as their confidence and independence skills grow.

The parent /carer will be also to be able to have a short break each week improving their quality of life and general well being.
