John Moores Foundation Funding Award

Sporting Challenge are pleased to announce a funding award of £1000 from the John Moores Foundation.

John Moores Foundation is a registered charity, established in 1964, that gives money to community organisations doing charitable work. We focus on funding projects based in Merseyside (including Skelmersdale, Halton, and Ellesmere Port) and Northern Ireland.

They aim to enable people who face barriers, as a result of social, educational, physical, economic, cultural, geographical or other disadvantage, to improve their social conditions and quality of life.

They do this by making grants to local groups that fall within our areas of interest as set out in this leaflet. Priority is given to small, grass-roots and volunteer driven organisations.

Sporting Challenge are a family led charity supporting people with learning disabilities, where all members of the Board of Trustees are parents and carers themselves.

The charity aims to provide sporting activities to encourage people with learning disabilities to keep fit and healthy. Their activities include: Aerobics, Bowling, Boccia, Kurling, Zumba/Dance, Swimming and other Fitness Activities.

They support around 52 people in the West Lancashire area to access a variety of activities by providing transport to and from their homes and the appropriate sessional workers to support them whilst carrying out the activities.

Edward McCarthy Sporting Challenge Activities Organiser said: “On behalf of Sporting Challenge I wish to thank the John Moores Foundation  for this fantastic funding award. It will make a huge difference and help us fund more sessions. Our numbers are growing. Our group can help people make new friends, grow in confidence and keep fit and healthy. If you are a parent who is interested please get in touch !”

Shepherd Street Trust

Sporting Challenge in West Lancashire, have been awarded £400 from the Shepherd St Trust to fund activities for people with disabilities. This funding is for swimming and bowling costs for sessions for members aged under 20.

Edward McCarthy Sporting Challenge Activities Organiser said: “On behalf of Sporting Challenge I wish to thank the Trust for their most generous finding award. Our numbers are growing and the majority of new members are aged 16-22. This is a key area we need to support. This number is set to grow over the years to come. We are working with Lancashire County Council to provide support/ sessions for adults transition aged (16-22) , this can be a difficult time for the adults and their families. There is a lot of change and they can easily move from school/ college and not keep their friendships. Our group can help people make new friends, grow in confidence and keep fit and healthy. If you are a parent who is interested please get in touch !”
